I Am Not Your Negro

6th November 2018 @ 8:00 pm

Raoul Peck (2016)  Samuel L Jackson, James Baldwin, Martin Luther King. Rated 12A

There will be a short introduction by Richard Cupidi before this film starts.

“I Am Not Your Negro” is a fierce, emotive and intensely inspiring documentary based on the writings and words of James Baldwin and his in-depth experiences of the Civil Rights movement in America. Taking the writings through the prism of history and how the Civil Rights struggles in the USA have developed; I Am Not Your Negro is a uniquely poetic and incisive portrait of America, where it came from and how it has gotten to where it is now. Presented with great conviction by Raoul Peck  (once Haiti’s Minister of Culture before resigning in protest) and with an impassioned but nuanced narration by Samuel L. Jackson; I Am Not Your Negro is a truly must-see film which may affect you in more ways that you were expecting. Winner of the BAFTA award for Best Documentary.
